Chief Pete Shelton

C.A. “Pete” Shelton is very deserving of this honor. He has years of service to the community both as a first responder and as a volunteer. He is a graduate of St. Anthony High School in Beaumont, and served with the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve. Chief Shelton began his career in public service as a firefighter for the Beaumont Fire Department in 1950. He rose in the ranks to captain, district chief, deputy chief, assistant chief, before being appointed chief in 1976. He served as chief for 20 years. During his time as chief, he also served as interim city manager and emergency management coordinator. He is now president of the Board of Commissioners at the Port of Beaumont, a position he has held since 2001. Chief Shelton has been a member of various professional and civic organizations, holding a number of offices. Some of his involvements include twelve years as a director of the International Association of Fire Chiefs; president, Texas Fire Chiefs Association; president, Sabine Neches Chiefs Association; various positions, Texas A&M University Fire Training School; chairman, Texas Fire Protection Advisory Board; chairman, State Fire Museum of Texas; campaign chair and president, United Way; president American Red Cross; board of directors, Beaumont Main Street, Lamar Institute of Technology Foundation, Boys Haven, The 100 Club and Cooks 2 Doz. + Inc.; Boy Scouts of America Advisory Board; and member, YMBL.
