Mr. Robert Hutson
The Smith-Hutson Scholarship Program is dedicated to providing educational opportunities to prospective students who can demonstrate financial need and have academic potential who are seeking a certificate or an associate degree from Lamar Institute of Technology. Sufficient assistance is provided to cover tuition, books, fees, and reasonable living expenses on or off campus. The Smith-Hutson Scholarship program has grown to be the most generous and prolific scholarship program offered at LIT. The total number of scholarship recipients who are supported by the program varies each year depending on new scholarships awarded and those students who graduate or drop out of the program. The scholarship is renewable as long as the student maintains the scholarship requirements. Smith-Hutson Scholars also benefit from tutorial support and academic advising from the program director and coordinator. Robert E. Hutson, a Lufkin native and retired Houston-area banker, is the administrator of the scholarship program, which is funded by a private family foundation. Smith-Hutson Scholarship recipients are selected by a committee which will include representatives named by the donor.
