Rotary Club of Beaumont Scholarship

The Rotary Club of Beaumont is pleased to announce that we are soliciting applications for a scholarship designed for “Non-Traditional” students pursuing an associate degree or technical certificate. A designated committee of Rotary members will review the applications and select the top students to be interviewed for the one available scholarship. We would appreciate your help in identifying quality candidates for the scholarship which is generously supported by members of the Rotary Club of Beaumont.

The following criteria and requirements are applicable for a Non-Traditional Scholarship Recipient:

1. Student delays enrollment- student does not enter postsecondary education in the same calendar year that he/she leaves or finishes high school AND one or more of the following (a-h):

  • a. Attends an institution of learning or training at least part time during the year; OR
  • b. Works full time (35 hours or more per week) while enrolled; OR
  • c. Is financially independent for purposes of determining eligibility for financial aid; OR
  • d. Has dependents other than a spouse (usually children, but sometimes others); OR
  • e. Is a single parent (either not married or married but separated and has dependents); OR
  • f. Does not have a high school diploma (i.e. completed high school with a GED or other high school completion certificate); OR
  • g. Is a veteran age 24 or older; OR
  • h. Is a ward of the court.

In addition, the student who receives the scholarship must adhere to these requirements:

  1. Student must be admitted to Lamar Institute of Technology and must provide proof of admission to be eligible for this scholarship.
  2. The scholarship is for the academic year beginning in August 2024.
  3. It is a one-time award of $2,500 with the payment made directly to Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT).
  4. If the student is enrolled for less than 9 hours of study, he/she will receive $1,250 for two semesters, with proof of enrollment and the first semester GPA of 2.5 or greater to receive the second installment. Nine (9) hours taken over the course of two consecutive summer sessions can be used as a semester of study.
  5. Applicants must be residents of either Jefferson, Hardin, or Orange County.
  6. Applicants must not be a member of the Rotary Club of Beaumont at the time of application or for one full year prior to application.
  7. Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, age, or national origin.
  8. Student must show that he/she is working to his/her potential determined at the sole discretion of the committee.
  9. An interview with select members of the Rotary Club of Beaumont may be required and scheduled at the convenience of the committee.
  10. If the student withdraws from LIT prior to the census date, the scholarship shall be returned to the Rotary Club of Beaumont by LIT as usual policy.
  11. This is a one-time award. Recipients are not eligible to apply for consideration in future years.

Or you may e-mail the application and documents, after scanning them so that they are clearly legible, to admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org with “LIT Non-Traditional Scholarship” in the subject line. Application and documents must be received by the May 1st deadline.

Handwritten applications must be complete and legible, or they will not be considered by the committee. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Postmarks must be on or before May 1st.
